Historically rich Etah was earlier called ‘Aantha’. It means ‘responding aggressively’. It is believed that the people here respond in a very aggressive manner. Etah is also considered the center of the 1857 rebellion. There is an ancient yagyashala in the Gurukul school here. This Yagyasala is considered to be the second largest Yagyashala in the world. A fort was also built here by the Raja of Avgarh. Apart from this, the ancient Kailash temple of Lord Shiva is the main center of faith of the people. The bird sanctuary here is very famous in terms of tourism.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had captured all the four seats here. There are about 14 lakh voters in the district. Political discussions here take place all over the state. Preparations have intensified here for the assembly elections to be held next year.
