Suggestion To Implement Grap Rule From Today Regarding Pollution Control – Delhi-NCR

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAPE) will be implemented in Delhi-NCR from Friday to deal with air pollution. Under this, along with controlling the polluting activities, instructions have been given to keep a close watch on the polluters in NCR. A meeting will be held on this issue next week and a decision will be taken on the new provisions.

In Delhi-NCR, GRAP is implemented every year between October 15 and March 15 when the air reaches the poor category. However, these days the Air Quality Index remains in the satisfactory category.

During the review meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr. Prashant Gargav, Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for the prevention of air pollution, it has been suggested to implement GRAP rules from October 15. According to Dr. VK Soni of the Meteorological Department, in the next two days, winds will blow from the south-east.

More decisions on pollution control will be taken after the meeting next week

  • Air quality level likely to remain in satisfactory category for next five days
  • Light rain likely on October 17 and 18

Board’s suggestions for pollution control

  • Stop using coal and wood in hotels and dhabas
  • Burning of garbage in open space should be banned
  • Increase bus and metro fares
  • Complete ban on brick kilns in Delhi-NCR
  • Strict adherence to pollution control standards in industries and power plants
  • PUC norms to be strictly followed
  • imposing heavy fines by seizing the polluting vehicles
  • sprinkling water on roadside dust
