Serum Upset Due To Covishields Stock Of 24 Crore Doses, Export Of 50 Lakh Vaccines Allowed

Serum Institute has urged the government to expedite the use of the Kovidshield vaccine.

Serum has sought some concessions from the government. The Center has allowed it to export 50 lakh vaccines to four countries under the Kovax scheme. Difficulties are coming. According to the report of PTI, the Serum Institute has a stock of 24,89,15,000 doses of Kovidshield vaccine and it is increasing daily.

We have to plan our production/cold chain space/human resources well in advance to meet our domestic and global supply, Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Serum Institute, wrote to the government. We are facing difficulties due to continuous increase in the stock of Covishield.

Singh has said in the letter that since this matter is directly related to the availability of various life saving vaccines in our country and the world, we urge to allow rapid domestic and global supply of Kovidshield vaccine.

Export allowed to these countries
The central government has allowed Serum to export 50 lakh doses of Covishield to Nepal, Tajikistan and Mozambique under the UN’s COVAX scheme. Apart from these three countries, SII has also been allowed to export Covishield under Covex to Bangladesh. This export will start from November 23. Nepal will get the first consignment of Covishield on November 24.
