A 50-year-old woman from Fazilka, Punjab has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court for protection to be in a consensual relationship with a 30-year-old man. Allowing the petition, the High Court has ordered the SSP of Fazilka to take a decision on the demand letter related to the security of the petitioner.

While filing the petition, the woman told that she is 50 years old and the boy is 30 years old. The woman is already married and wants to live with her lover. She will later marry her lover after getting divorced from her husband. The High Court, after hearing the petitioner’s side, said that the petitioner has come here to protect life and liberty. The right to the protection of life and liberty is a right given by the Constitution. While ensuring security, it is not necessary to look at the validity of the relationship or other factors. Every adult has the right to choose the life partner of his choice and live with him.
