Nepal is trying to reclaim its claim on some Indian areas on the pretext of census. The 12th National Census began in Nepal on Thursday. On this occasion, Nepal’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said, it is trying to contact Indian authorities for census in its claimed Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura.

Nepal’s cabinet in May last year released a new political map showing the Indian areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura in its border. India reacted sharply to this. It also warned Kathmandu that such artificial expansion of territorial claims would not be acceptable.

CBS Director General, Nabin Lal Shrestha said that we are trying to contact the Indian authorities through the Ministry of External Affairs to conduct the census in these three areas. CBS information officer Tirtha Chollagai said five villages in the area have a population of 700 to 800.
