Delhi Capitals’ dream of winning their maiden IPL title once again remained unfulfilled. The Rishabh Pant-led side suffered a defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the second qualifier.

In the exciting match played in Sharjah on Wednesday, the performance of Delhi’s batsmen was not special and the team scored 135 runs while batting first. In reply, Kolkata made a strong start, at one point it seemed as if the KKR team would win the match without losing any wicket. But the Delhi bowlers bowled tremendously in the middle overs and dropped six wickets in seven runs in Kolkata’s three overs. This was the reason that the match went till the last over and became very exciting. However, on the fifth ball, Rahul Tripathi ended the match with a six off Ashwin.

Its captain Rishabh Pant looked very emotional after Delhi’s defeat in the breath-taking match. He said after the match, ‘I don’t have the answer to how I feel. After the fall of six wickets, we were confident that we would take the match forward, but we could not. He bowled well in the middle overs, we couldn’t rotate the strike.

While praising his team, Pant also encouraged his team and said that Delhi Capitals have always been known to make a comeback, hopefully we will come back next year. We played good cricket this season, whatever happened, we learn, hopefully we will do well next season.

Delhi Capitals were on top of the points table after winning 10 matches in the league stage but after that they lost to Chennai in the first qualifier and Kolkata in the second qualifier in the playoffs.

Kolkata’s team will now play the final for the third time and this time they will face Chennai Super Kings again.
