Amit Khare, a 1985 batch retired IAS officer and former Human Resource and Information Broadcasting Secretary, has been appointed as an advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment order was issued on Tuesday. He retired as the Higher Education Secretary on 30 September.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal to appoint Khare as an advisor to PM Modi. His contractual appointment in PMO has been done on the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India. He will remain in this position for two years. He also played an important role in formulating the New Education Policy 2020 under the direction of Prime Minister Modi and in changing digital media rules while in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Amit Khare’s appointment in the PMO comes after former cabinet secretary PK Sinha and former secretary Amarjit Sinha quit as advisors in the PMO this year. Khare is recognized as a clear decision making officer with complete transparency. He is one of the few secretaries who have held the post of Head of Higher Education and School Education Department and Information and Broadcasting Secretary in the Union HRD Ministry under PM Modi.
