Himachal News: Earthquake In Shimla Glacier Breaks Off In Lahaul-spiti

Earthquake tremors were felt thrice in the capital Shimla on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. However, no loss of life or property was reported due to the earthquake. At the same time, the glacier broke on Wednesday morning in front of Jagla village adjoining Sisu in Lahaul-Spiti. Its video is becoming increasingly viral in social media. No damage has been done due to the break-up of the glacier.

An earthquake of magnitude 2.5 struck Shimla on Tuesday night at 2:21 pm, 2.2 at 2:33 am and an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 at 10:58 am on Wednesday. Although the magnitude of the quake was underestimated on the Richter scale, the residents panicked after feeling mild tremors. The tremors of the earthquake that hit Mandi at around 10 pm on Tuesday night were also felt in Shimla.

On the other hand, no damage has been done due to glacier break from the hill in front of Jagla village of tribal district Lahaul-Spiti. The valley has received fresh snowfall last month. Dorje Namgyal, a resident of Sissu, who made the video of the breaking glacier, said that glaciers often fall here, but there is no harm due to lack of habitation around.

Clear weather till November 28
The weather is forecast to remain clear in the state till November 28. On Wednesday, the weather remained clear in most areas of the state including the capital Shimla. However, the weather has become cooler. Due to snowfall in the higher mountainous areas, the minimum temperature of the state has decreased. On Tuesday night, the minimum temperature was minus 3.8 in Keylong, 0.8 in Kalpa, 2.0 in Manali, 2.8 in Sundernagar, 3.2 in Solan, 4.0 in Hamirpur, 4.7 in Chamba, 6.0 in Bilaspur, 8.6 in Shimla and 9.6 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala.
