The race for admission under the fourth cutoff for undergraduate courses in Delhi University (DU) will begin from today. In this cutoff, there are opportunities for admission in some subjects of B.Com Hons, B.Com and Science. Students have only two days to get admission for this cutoff. So far 63,504 students have deposited fees in DU.

In the fourth cut-off announced on Saturday, DU has slashed by 0.25 per cent for general category and three to four per cent for reserved category as compared to the previous three more specials. According to DU, students can apply for the fourth cutoff from 10 am on November 1 to 11:59 pm on November 2. Colleges will have to approve the applications by 5 pm on November 5. Also, admissions can be done only till November 5. After this, by 5 pm on November 6, the student will have to deposit the fees for admission.

Under the fourth cutoff, students will once again have the opportunity to change colleges and courses. This option was not there in the special cutoff released earlier. However, the student has to be careful in this. If he is getting a preferred course in any other college under the cutoff, then his application made in the earlier cutoff will have to be canceled. There will also be a fee of Rs 1000 for cancellation of the application. Also, a fresh application has to be made under the fourth cutoff. However, the student must first make sure whether it is possible to get admission in the new college or not. He/she will not be able to get admission in the cutoff from which the admission is cancelled.

Under the fourth cutoff, students have more opportunities for admission in the reserved category. In most of the colleges, seats are vacant in PWD, ST, EWS and Kashmiri Migrant category. In this cutoff, opportunities for admission to major courses like B.Com and B.Com Honors are open. After this the chances of admission in these courses may decrease. There are 31 colleges out of 41 for B.Com Honors.

Those students who do not get admission in the fourth cut-off need not be disappointed. The university will release the 5th cutoff for admission on November 8. However, the admission opportunities will be limited as compared to earlier. Till this cutoff, only a few colleges will have seats left. In such a situation, the students of the university are advised to confirm where the seat is available. After that the chances of admission will be very less.
