Cop26 Talk Of Agreement Will Happen Between Leaders Of More Than 190 Countries And Thousands Of Researchers On Climate Change, Why It Is Important, Know Here Know why it is important

The COP26 meeting of the United Nations on climate change is being held in Britain. This time the leaders of 190 countries and thousands of scientists, researchers and citizens have reached this program. This time COP-26 is being considered as an important step against climate change. It is being said that this is a big opportunity for countries to prepare an action plan to reduce carbon emissions.

What is COP-26?
This is the 26th conference to discuss climate change this year. That is why this time the program is being called (Conference of Parties-26) COP-26. The event has been held in Glasgow, Scotland this year. The conference follows an IPCC report that said the Earth’s climate is changing rapidly and sea level rise with heatwaves, droughts and heavy rains will be significant over the next decade.

When was Cop-26 formed?
The Conference of the Parties (COP) was formed in 1994 to monitor climate change for the United Nations. It was brought into existence under the United Nations Climate Change Framework Convention (UNFCCC). It was established to monitor greenhouse gas mobilization in the atmosphere.

When was the coop organized?
COP member states have been participating in the meeting every year since 1995. There are 198 parties in this organization, including America, China and India. While the first meeting took place in Berlin, Germany, COP-3 was held in Kyoto, Japan, where the Kyoto Protocol was implemented for the first time. Under this protocol, countries have to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The rules came into force on 16 February 2005 and were ratified by 192 countries.

India organized COP-8 in 2002 from 23 October to 1 November. In this meeting too, emphasis was laid on sharing of technology to increasing research for climate change. The most important meeting of the COP was held in Paris, France in 2015. Then the member countries committed to work to keep the rise in temperature below two degrees while limiting global warming.

What are the goals of Cop-26 this time?

According to the United Nations, this time four targets of COP-26 have been set. These goals are…

1. Aim to keep carbon emissions net zero and temperature rise to 1.5 degrees by the middle of this century
In the COP-26’s Charter of Action, Britain said it would reduce emissions by 78 percent by 2035 and achieve the net zero target by 2050. India had also taken a big step by increasing the target of renewable energy to 450 GW and announcing the hydrogen mission. The charter states that many more countries will work to reduce emissions as part of their responsibilities.

It has been proposed by the UNFCCC that the use of coal should be reduced gradually and the adoption of electric vehicles should be emphasized along with cutting the forest. Apart from this, it was said to ensure the use of renewable energy to achieve the target.

2. Rules for enforcement of protection of communities and natural habitats
Apart from this, discussions have also been decided between countries on the conservation and restoration of ecosystems, as well as adopting flexible infrastructure and agricultural practices. to protect homes, communities and natural habitats.

3. Funding to meet climate change goals
The UNFCC has said that to achieve the first two goals, developed countries should fulfill the promise of giving 100 billion dollars by 2020 to stop climate change. The UK minister said that we have to commit all countries to this kind of help, so that promises can be converted into actions.

4. Cooperative Attitude to Achieve Goal
One of the goals of COP26 is to implement the rules of the Paris Climate Agreement. For this, it was decided to discuss the detailed rules in the meeting, so that all the parameters of the agreement could be met.
