Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has described China as the biggest threat to India’s security. At the same time, he said that the return of thousands of soldiers and weapons sent on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) will not be possible for a long time.

There is no agreement on the withdrawal of soldiers
In a media conclave, General Rawat said on Thursday that lack of confidence and doubts continue to hinder efforts to resolve the border dispute between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Military-level talks between the two countries ended in a standoff last month as the two countries did not agree on how to withdraw troops from the border.

ready to respond to any misadventure
Since last year, amidst tensions on the LAC, both the countries are engaged in increasing arms along with the soldiers on the border. General Rawat said that India is ready to deal with any misadventure on the border and at sea. The Chinese are setting up villages (near LAC) and they may be used as military bases in future. China has taken this step after the tension between the two countries.

CDS Rawat also expressed concern about the possible impact on India of the Taliban occupation of Afghanistan and said that there could be an attempt to promote terrorism through it in Jammu and Kashmir. General Rawat said security issues involving Pakistan with hostile China and the Taliban have made it necessary for the Indian Army to reorganize theater commands along the northern and western borders.
