The four-day long Chhath Puja is dedicated to the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. This time the main festival of Chhath is on November 10, in which in the evening they offer Ardhya to the setting sun, then the next morning they break the fast by offering water to the Sun God. Like the festival of Diwali is of 5 days, the festival of Navratri is of 9 days, in the same way Chhath Puja is a folk festival lasting for 4 days. This festival begins on the Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha and ends on Saptami Tithi. Mothers keep Chhath festival for the happiness, prosperity, health and long life of their children.

First day – take bath (Kartik Shukla Paksha Chaturthi)

This year Chhath festival started on November 08 with bathing and eating. Having a bath is the first day of Chhath Puja. In this, after cleaning the house in the morning, taking a bath, taking a vow of worship and fasting in the mind, vegetarian food is eaten.

Day 2: Kharna (Kartik Shukla Paksha Panchami)

Kharna is the second day of Chhath festival. One who observes a fast on the day of Kharna, observes a fast without consuming water on that day. In the evening, kheer of jaggery, ghee of bread and fruits etc. are distributed as prasad in Kharna.

Day 3: Evening Arghya (Kartik Shukla Paksha Shashthi)

The third day is the main day of Chhath festival. In this, Ardhya is offered to the Sun God in the evening on Shashti Tithi. Before offering Arghya to the Sun, people gather on the banks of the rivers and decorate the soup in bamboo baskets with fruits, thekua, laddus and other worship materials. Vrati worships Chhathi Mai and offers prayers to the Sun and prays for happiness and prosperity of her family.
