Australia is about to add right-wing extremist group ‘The Base’ and Lebanese group Hezbollah to the list of banned terrorist organizations. This is because the country’s national security services are grappling with an increase in incidents inspired by neo-Nazi and other extremist ideologies.

Neo-Nazi white supremacist group ‘The Base’ was founded in the US in 2018. The remaining 25 terrorist organizations in Australia’s list are Muslim groups, including Hezbollah’s external security organization. It was included in the banned list under the Criminal Code of Australia in 2003.

The Home Minister said that being a member or supporter of any organization, member or supporter of Hezbollah will now be considered a criminal act. Andrews said that terrorist organizations are watching Australia as the country has opened its borders and lifted pandemic restrictions.
