The US has now officially joined the International Solar Alliance, an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav gave this information in a tweet on Wednesday. So far, the total number of countries joining this alliance has gone up to 101.

This alliance was started by Prime Minister Modi and the then French President Francis Hollande during the 2015 climate conference in Paris. The US announced its joining the alliance on Wednesday at the Cop26 climate summit currently being held in Glasgow, Scotland.

Efforts to reduce dependence on conventional energy resources
Under the International Solar Alliance, a target has been set to invest one thousand billion US dollars by 2030 to increase the production of solar energy around the world. Necessary efforts are being made through this alliance to reduce the dependence on conventional resources for energy.

According to one figure, the countries included in the International Solar Alliance represent three-fourths of the world’s population. 20 to 50 percent of the people of these countries do not have access to electricity. According to the target set under this alliance, it is planned to produce one terawatt of solar power by the year 2020.

India and France started this alliance in 2015
The International Solar Alliance was jointly launched by India and France in 2015 during the 21st conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) in Paris. The purpose of starting this is to find solutions together to solve the major challenges for the promotion of solar energy.

Most of the countries involved in this alliance are located between the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn. That is, these countries are located at the shortest distance from the Sun and a lot of solar energy is available in these countries throughout the year. Through this initiative, there are plans to make maximum use of this renewable energy in these countries.
