Agra Air Pollution Air Quality Index At Dangerous Level Near Taj Mahal

In Agra on Friday too, there was a respiratory emergency in many areas of the city including Sanjay Place and Taj Mahal. In the presence of heavy pollution and dust, it became difficult for people to breathe. The amount of very fine particulates in the air was recorded at more than 9 times the normal, while the dangerous carbon monoxide remained up to 37 times the normal.

The air quality in the heart of the city i.e. Sanjay Place remained extremely dangerous. Here the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 474. The average AQI of Agra in the list released by the Central Pollution Control Board stood at 405. This is the average of all the five monitoring stations in the city, while Sanjay Place has the most polluted air in the city. After this, AQI 407 was registered on Taj Mahal.

The AQI was 405 at Manoharpur station, 384 at Awas Vikas Colony Sector 3 and 364 at Shastripuram. Due to the huge number of vehicles and black smoke emanating from the traffic jam at Sanjay Place, the fine particulate matter crossed 500. The average amount of PM 2.5 recorded here is 456, which is telling a very serious situation.

Roadside shopkeepers in Bodla Shastripuram area have installed transparent plastic sheets to avoid this due to heavy dust. Due to heavy dust in the shop, clothes, confectionery, sweets, dairy products and other items started getting spoiled, so transparent plastic sheets have been installed by every shopkeeper in this area.

On this road, the drainage has been dug at three places for sewer and water pipeline, due to which heavy dust is also accumulating on this plastic sheet. Regional shopkeeper Mahendra Singh said that cleaning has to be done thrice a day. Due to dust, the visible across the sheet starts to stop in four to five hours.

‘Municipal Corporation-ADA buy anti smog gun’
Flying dust during construction remained a major issue in the review meeting of the development works of the Board. Commissioner Amit Gupta has directed ADA Vice President and Municipal Commissioner for air pollution control to purchase anti-smog guns. Anti smog gun cleans dust and smoke in heavy pollution. He asked ADA and Municipal Corporation to take pollution control measures like Metro.
